Road Trip to the PCT Day 9: San Diego by Sunset

0

Just a quick update and my two cents about the Grand Canyon.

I’m on track to arrive in San Diego this evening to finish what has been a stand alone adventure in its own right, the road trip to the PCT.

Yesterday’s late start and slow ride to the Grand Canyon didn’t give me enough time to hike into the canyon. This makes this second time I’ve been limited to the paved rim trail at the Grand Canyon.

Don’t make the same mistake I did; don’t just stand at the rim. The Grand Canyon is too vast and impressive to experience from the paved scenic overlooks. To be candid, I was disappointed.

Hike down in there. Take a horse if you have to. Heck, take a helicopter ride over the canyon. Just don’t stand there like I did today.

To offset my disappointment I stayed through sunset and into the night to snap some pictures of the stars.

After all was said and done I pulled off the to the side of the road outside of Flagstaff for my last night’s sleep in my car.
