Slow and steady was the pace up Mt. Baden Powell today. Summitting around 5:30 pm, I kept the pace slow and steady on the way down, and didn’t get far.

About a mile and a half from the peak, I set up camp, completing my ten mile day.

The tent site was barely suited for one, and one is all you need to have a camp fire.

Well, that, and wood, some magnesium shavings, medical tape, a lighter, and a California fire permit.

What’s it take to get a California fire permit you might ask?

As for the magnesium shavings and medical tape, a fire starting trick I learned on YouTube is to direct the shavings from a magnesium stick onto tape. The shavings get stuck, instead of blowing away in the wind, plus the tape is flammable. If the shavings won’t spark with a flint, just light the tape with a lighter. And there it is, a fire.
