Day 12: Schoolcraft

Henry Schoolcraft was guided by Ozaawindib, an Ojibwe guide, to origin of the Mississippi at Lake Itasca in 1832.

Henry Schoolcraft

Today I had lunch at the state park that is named in his honor:

I was dragging a bit today and that pretty much always means I either didn’t eat enough or sleep enough.

Sometimes I don’t eat as much as I should in the interest of time. In a perfect world I would eat a one of those fancy mountain house dehydrated meals several times a day. All you have to do is boil a cup of water and throw out the bag when you’re done. In general they taste pretty good too. But they’re about $12 a meal. Spending $3,000 on dehydrated meals isn’t my idea of a good time.

My diet is pretty much oat meal, bags of granola (almost done with my blueberry bag), cliff bars (mint and chocolate brownie), or pop tarts (s’more and strawberry) for breakfast or snacks throughout the day. My dinner has either been a few dehydrated meals that I did buy (about $150 worth) or macoroni with cheese powder (no milk) and tuna packets. I also pack chicken noodle ramen which I mix with tuna as well.

Somehow I covered 30 miles today.

I say somehow because the same effort that I put in to get me 10 to 15 miles a week ago is now good for 30.
