How to Make a Lamp (Vintage Steampunk Wall Sconce)

0

In this video I teach you how make a lamp. This is a conventional light socket lamp (wall sconce) attached to standard plumbing fittings which are spray-painted metallic black to match. This style resembles a steampunk or vintage lamp. This is a simple DIY project that, outside of painting, only takes a few minutes to assemble.

Standard light sockets are fitted with a 1/8″ Female Iron Pipe thread (also known as National Pipe Thread). With a 1/8″ Male fitting you can attach a standard light socket to pretty much anything you can dream up.

Use 18 gauge wire through whatever fittings you select. Any lamp wire lower than 18 gauge (such as 16 gauge) will have a hard time passing through the 1/8″ fitting to the light socket.

There’s no other real trick to making a lamp. This is just something you need to see done once before intuitively making or repairing a conventional lamp of your own.

I purchased everything I needed at the local Home Depot. The total cost of each lamp will vary depending on how many you want to build and the type of bulb you select. The cost of these wall sconces totaled about $35 each.
